InnerGenerational: Becoming Ancestors is the latest show from a collective of second-generation Asian Canadians, returning to the stage for Asian Heritage Month.
Asian Heritage Month in Toronto has been a step toward representation and community connection, but this month only offers surface-level and commercial programming. Our project revolutionizes the way we celebrate our heritage— allowing ourselves to connect with our audience in the same way we do with those we love.
With a brand new showcase of storytelling, music, rap, poetry, comedy, dance, and more, InnerGenerational asks the question: how do we move through trauma while passing down the best parts of our ancestry? How do we make room for vulnerability as we share our stories, allowing future generations to do the same?
By exploring our lineages, our families, and our complicated histories, we are able to find where we belong. Where we become ancestors.
